Finals Fantasy : Lakers-Celtics

I have been thinking of this finals match-up for a long time. I thought that it will only be a fantasy. But since Boston had the Big 3, and L.A. got good players around Kobe, it made me think that this could be possible. Its like the Ateneo-La Salle Rivalry x20

Less than 24 hours after the Staples Center crowd chanted “We want Boston,” a small, upper deck cadre of Celtics fans who had infiltrated the Palace of Auburn Hills broke out their own famed refrain:

Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.!

Celtics-Lakers. Nevermind saying it. It’s more likely you screamed it, screamed it so loud that you’ll need those extra days between now and Game 1 of the NBA Finals to rest your vocal cords.Amazing, isn’t it? Not only will the greatest nine months in the history of Boston sports include yet another run for yet another championship, but this one will be a throwback showdown of epic proportions.

The Celtics, 89-81 victors over the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals last night at The Palace of Auburn Hills, host the Lakers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night at the Garden, meaning there will be plenty of history and nostalgia for everyone.

The Celtics swept the old Minneapolis Lakers in the 1959 NBA Finals. They beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals in ’62, ’63, ’65, ’66, ’68 and, perhaps most famously, ’69. Did they ever get those balloons out of the Forum rafters?

And then Bird, McHale and Parish came along, and the Celtics beat the Lakers in the finals in 1984 but lost to them in ’85 and ’87.

What’s best about this is that the NBA won’t have to hold cue cards in front of these modern-day Celtics with instructions to say something light and clever about the history of this Gigantor of a basketball rivalry.

“It means everything to Boston fans,” said Paul Pierce , who gets it. “I think that’s pretty much what got me started in basketball, growing up in Los Angeles, watching the Lakers and the Celtics.

“As a kid, I hated the Celtics. And now I’m going home to play against my team that I grew up watching. It’s a dream come true, man, just thinking about it. I think that rivalry really revolutionized the game of basketball, and now I’m part of it.”

And now I’m part it. That’s wonderful. It’s perfect. By speaking those words, Pierce wasn’t merely paying homage to the great Celtics-Lakers rivalry; he was getting down on his hands and knees and thanking his maker for allowing him to add his name to the rivalry.

And then there was Kevin Garnett, whose arrival in Boston last summer made this upcoming series possible to enjoy. Unlike Pierce, Garnett did not grow up in the Los Angeles area and did not grow up hating the Celtics. But he was a kid with a basketball under his arm, glued to the TV, glued to Celtics-Lakers.

Taking us into his very own way-back machine, Garnett introduced us to the days of “. . . that big plate of food in front of me, watching the Lakers and Celtics play on Sunday, Hubie Brown and Dick Stockton doing the game.

“I remember that like it was yesterday. I remember my mom telling me, ‘Don’t get too close to the TV, it’ll kill your eyes.’ ”

Garnett then paused and said, “Man, I’m looking forward to this.”

Last Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Spurs in Game 5 to advance to the NBA Finals. On Saturday, the Boston Celtics topped the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 to meet the Lakers in the 2008 Finals. With the NBA championship on the line, the NBA’s two most storied franchises will face off.

Both teams entered the playoffs as the number one seed in their conference. The Lakers came out of the Western Conference by leaning on Kobe Bryant’s MVP skills. The Celtics are led by the trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Boston’s biggest advantage in the Finals will be their homecourt advantage. It will be difficult for the Lakers to win a game in Boston — especially with their rowdy fans doing all they can to bring another championship to Boston. Garnett, Pierce and Allen are now all play very well and the young players on the team have grown up in a hurry.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have the best player in the planet. Bryant will be tough for anyone to stop. On top of that, their team is amazingly deep. From Pau Gasol to Lamar Odom to their young and explosive bench, it’ll be difficult to keep the Lakers from scoring. Defensively, the Lakers are also very underrated.

As a Laker Fan my Prediction Lakers in 5. Yeah I said it. !!

Sa Saturday makakalaban namin ang READS sa inter-color na my record na 3 panalo at 1 talo..ang record namin ay 2-2. Words of Wisdom from Inday

Dahil sa tindi ng kahirapan sa probinsya,
namasukan si Inday bilang katulong sa Maynila.
Habang ini-interview ng amo...

Amo: Kelangan namin ng katulong para mag ayos ng
bahay, magluto, maglaba, magplantsa, mamalengke,
at magbantay ng mga bata. Kaya mo ba ang lahat ng
ito?

Inday: I believe that my trained skills and
expertise in management with the use of standard
tools, and my discipline and experience will
contribute significantly to the value of the
work that you want, my creativity, productivity
and work-efficiency and the high quality of
outcomes I can offer will boost the work
progress.

Amo: [nosebleed]

Nakaraan ang dalawang araw, umuwi ang amo,
nakitang me bukol si junior.

Amo: Bakit me bukol si junior?

Inday: Compromising safety with useless
aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered
architectural design of our kitchen lavatory
affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at
the left temple near the auditory organ.

Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Kinagabihan, habang naghahapunan.

Amo: Bakit maalat ang ulam?

Inday: The consistency was fine. But you see, it
seems that the increased amount of sodium
chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically
and those actions are irreversible. I do
apologize.

Amo: [nosebleed na naman]

Donya: Bakit tuwing paguwi ko, nadadatnan kitang
nanunuod ng tv?!

Inday: Because I don't want you to see me doing
absolutely nothing.

Donya: [hinimatay]

Kinabukasan, sinamahan ni Inday si junior sa
principal's office dahil di makapunta ang amo at
donya.

Principal: Sinuntok ni junior ang kanyang
kaklase.

Inday: It's absurd! It was never a fact that he
will inflict a fight. I can only imagine how you
handle schizophrenic kids on this educational
institution. Revise your policies because they
suck!

Principal: [nag resign]

Pag dating sa bahay, nandun na ang amo, galit na
galit.

Amo: Inday, bakit nagkalat ang basura sa likod ng
bahay?!

Inday: A change in the weather patterns might
have occurred wrecking havoc to the
surroundings. The way the debris are scattered
indicates that the gust of wind was going
northeast causing damage to the path it was
heading for.

Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Habang nagluluto si Inday ng hapunan, malikot si
junior.

Inday: Stop your raucous behavior. It is bound
to result in property damages and if that
happens there will be corresponding punishment to
be inflicted upon you!

Junior: [takbo sa CR, punasan ang nagdudugong
ilong]

Pagkatapos magluto, nanood na ng TV si Inday.
Nabalitaan nya umalis si Angel Locsin sa GMA 7.

Junior: Bakit kaya sya umalis?

Inday: Sometimes, people choose to leave not
because of selfish reasons but because they just
know that things will get worse if they'll stay.
Leaving can be a tough act, and it's harder when
people can't understand you for doing so.

Junior: [tuloy ang pagdugo ng ilong]

Nung gabing yon, me nag text ke Inday. Si Dodong,
ang driver ng kapitbahay, gusto maki pag
text-mate.

Inday: To forestall further hopes of
acquaintance, my unfathomable statement to the
denial of your request - Petition denied.

Di nagla-on, dahil sa tyaga ni Dodong, nagging
syota nya rin si Inday. Pero di tumagal ang
kanilang relasyon, at nakipag-break si Inday ke
Dodong.

Inday: The statute restricts me to love you but
you have the provocations. The way you smile is
the proximate cause why I love you. We have some
rules to think of. We have no vested rights to
love each other because the upper household
dismissed my petition!"

Dodong: Perhaps you are mistaken, what you seem
to contrive as any affections for you are
somewhat half-hearted. I was merely attempting
to expand my network of interests by involving
you in my daily recreation. Heretofor, you can
expect an end to any verbal articulation from
myself"

Me dumaan na mamang basurero, at narinig ang
usapan ni Inday at Dodong.

Basurero (sabi ke Inday): Be careful in letting
go of the things you thought are just nothing
because maybe someday you'll realize that the one
you gave away is the very thing you've been
wishing for to stay.

Narinig ang lahat ng eto ng amo ni inday.

Amo: [nagpakamatay]

Control Charts for Variables

Two charts are used together: R-chart ("range chart") and X barchart ("average chart")

Both the process variability (measured by the R-chart) and the process average (measured by the X bar chart) must be in control before the process can be said to be in control.

Process variability must be in control before the X bar chart can be developed because a measure of process variability is required to determine the -chart control limits.

R-Chart for Process Variability:

UCLR = D4(R)

LCLR = D3(R)

where is the average of past R values, and D3 and D4 are constants based on the sample size

-Chart for Process Average:

UCLR = X bar + A2(R)

LCL = X bar - A2(R)

where X bar is the average of several past values, and A2 is a constant based on the sample size
